Describe your experience with the Equinox.  Have you participated in the full marathon, the relay, and/or the ultra?  How many times?

The Equinox marathon is a fun way to practice distance running. I have done the Equinox relay two times.

When do you start training for this race?  How much of the course itself do you incorporate into your training?  How often do you incorporate the Dome into your training?

I run all summer, I start actually training when I learn that I have a team for the race. I run sections of the trail that I am not familiar with, about 3 miles’ worth. I often run sections on the Dome with my team, Team FAST, where we run up several times in the summer for a workout.

What are your key workouts in preparation for this race?

Running distance, running farther than I normally do.

What’s your favorite thing about this race?

I like the variety of trails, and it’s fun. The course is scenic.

What’s your favorite part of the course? Your least favorite part?

Most favorite part of the race is running on the narrow trails through the woods. My least favorite part is that it is during cross-country running season, and I can’t run it for the next four years!

Describe the best moment you’ve experienced during this race. Describe the worst.

The worst was when I had to wait at the top of Ester Dome when it was snowing and really cold. I was waiting for my relay exchange for a long time. My best moment is seeing my last team member finish the race!

Do you consider yourself a competitive runner? What are your running goals/fitness goals?

No, I consider myself a runner who likes to run. My fitness goals are to run the entire course all by myself.

What’s the best advice or training tips you can share with others who are new to this race?

Be sure to train for it, because it is a very difficult course. Run the trail and be familiar with sections of the course.

Have you made any big training errors, or race day flubs that adversely affected your enjoyment or time in this race?

I haven’t had any flubs yet.

Any plans on participating in the Equinox this year? This race has been described as one of the most grueling marathons in the country!  What keeps you motivated to participate in this event?

No, because I will be in high school cross-country. It is my last long race before I begin skiing.
